Level:  This is most suited to B1 level students and B2 level as a revision exercise.

Time:  2 hours + (depending on level).

This is a lesson to help students develop accuracy in the use of reported speech. It includes the use of ‘say’ and ‘tell’, rules for using the backshift, questions in reported speech and structures for reporting orders/instructions. There are several practice exercises and a revision section.

We have a teacher’s copy (including teacher’s notes, a pronunciation guide and an answer key) and a student version which you can email to your class for online lessons.

This is an intensive lesson, so you may wish to teach it over two classes/days or throughout a week. We also recommend breaking it up with some communicative reported speech tasks.
