This is a fun St Patrick’s Day Quiz on the topic of St Patrick’s Day celebrations and Ireland. Students work in pairs, racing against other teams in the class to answer the questions. They can go online if necessary to check for any unknown facts, or it can be used as a follow-up to our St Patrick’s Day Lesson (A2).

St Patrick’s Day Speaking Task
This St Patrick’s Day Speaking activity is great for developing fluency when talking about St Patrick’s Day and luck. Students take turns choosing a question to ask another student in their group. More St Patrick’s Day ESL Activities for Teens & Adults
- St. Patrick’s Day Fact or Fiction – Share interesting facts about Ireland and St. Patrick’s Day celebrations, mixing in some true and false statements. Students must guess which ones are real and which are myths, sparking discussion and learning along the way.
- Short Story Writing: Students write a story using key vocabulary related to Ireland, St Patrick’s Day, leprechauns, and Irish traditions. Encourage higher level students to incorporate elements of Irish folklore for an extra challenge.
- Irish Myths & Legends – Students research famous Irish folktales, such as those about banshees, leprechauns, or the Salmon of Knowledge. They then summarise and retell the stories in their own words to the class, practicing storytelling and public speaking.
- Irish Music or Poetry – Play traditional Irish songs or read translated Irish poetry. Discuss the themes, cultural significance, and emotions behind the lyrics. Have students interpret what the writer might have meant and relate it to their own experiences.
- Movie Clip Analysis – Watch selected scenes from Irish movies and analyse the themes, cultural references, vocabulary, and distinct accents. Discuss how the Irish identity is portrayed in film.
- Create Your Own Irish Blessing – Students write their own short, poetic good-luck wishes inspired by traditional Irish blessings. Encourage creativity and positive messages.
- Write Your Own Limerick – Introduce students to the structure of limericks, providing examples and breaking down the AABBA rhyme scheme. Then, have them craft their own humorous limericks to share with the class.
