These present perfect exercises are designed for A1+/A2 ESL students and provide structured grammar practice. Through eight engaging worksheet activities, students learn to use the present perfect to talk about experiences and actions at an unspecified time before now. They also practise affirmative and negative forms, questions, regular and irregular past participles, common time expressions, and the difference between the present perfect and past simple. This resource is ideal for classroom practice, homework, revision, assessments, fast finishers, and B1 revision.

Present Perfect Exercises Overview

Exercise 1

Write the past and past participle forms of common regular verbs.

Exercise 2

Complete a past participle chart using a range of common irregular verbs.

Exercise 3

Complete present perfect sentences using the correct verb forms from a word box.

Exercise 4

Practise negative present perfect forms using regular and irregular verbs.

Exercise 5

Form present perfect questions from prompts using have/has and the correct past participles.

Exercise 6

Sort common time words and phrases according to the tense they are typically used with.

Exercise 7

Rewrite sentences using common present perfect adverbs including already, yet, ever, never, before, and just.

Exercise 8

Choose between the present perfect and past simple to complete contextualised sentences.

This is a fantastic website and the worksheets scaffold the teaching points very well. But there are two things that I find to be a small irritant. When I put in a specific search e.g. second conditional - it includes worksheets not related to that search. The other thing is that I am a paid subscriber but often a pop up box appears asking me to review the free resources. I have to keep closing the pop up box which is annoying.
