Level: This is most suited to A2- level, but can also be used with strong A1-level students (A1+).
Time: 1 hour 30 mins + (depending on level).
This Adverbs of Manner ESL lesson plan includes focus on the use and form of adverbs which describe verbs.
The students first look at adverbs formed by ending –ly to adjectives, including any spelling changes (quickly, loudly, etc.). Next, there is a section on irregular adverbs (fast, early, well, etc.). The lesson continues with language notes on the position of adverbs in a sentence and the use of linking verbs with adjectives rather than adverbs (The food smells delicious, etc.).
There are plenty of practice exercises throughout, including gap-fills, a spot the error exercise, and conversation questions containing the adverbs.
Finally, there is a revision section and a vocabulary-image matching task to revise any new vocabulary encountered during the lesson.
We have a teacher’s copy (including teacher’s notes and an answer key) and a student version which you can email to your class for online lessons.
