This engaging ESL humour speaking activity is designed for B2–C1 students and helps develop fluency while exploring humour, jokes, and laughter. Students share personal opinions, tell stories, and discuss cultural differences in humour in a lively and interactive way.

Overview of this ESL humour speaking activity

1. Introduction to Humour

Students discuss what they find funny and share examples of humour from their own experiences and cultures.

2. Speaking Activity

Students take turns choosing a question and asking another student in their group. The responding student answers and aims to speak for at least one minute.

3. Discussion and Storytelling

Students share funny experiences, opinions, and cultural perspectives, encouraging extended speaking and meaningful interaction.

4. Follow-up Discussion

Students reflect on different types of humour and compare how humour varies across cultures.

This is a fantastic website and the worksheets scaffold the teaching points very well. But there are two things that I find to be a small irritant. When I put in a specific search e.g. second conditional - it includes worksheets not related to that search. The other thing is that I am a paid subscriber but often a pop up box appears asking me to review the free resources. I have to keep closing the pop up box which is annoying.
