Air Travel Vocabulary ESL Lesson Overview
1. Introduction Questions
Students begin by discussing their own experiences of flying, including airlines, delays, and memorable journeys. This stage introduces the topic naturally and encourages students to share personal experiences related to air travel.
2. Airport and Air Travel Vocabulary
Students match useful airport and flying vocabulary to definitions. The lesson includes practical travel-related words such as customs, turbulence, gate, departures, and runway.
3. Travel Collocations
Students complete a collocation matching task using common travel expressions such as boarding pass, travel light, jet lag, and fasten your seatbelt. Students then discuss the expressions in pairs.
4. Sequencing an Air Travel Journey
Students work together to place the stages of a typical flight journey into the correct order, from booking a flight and checking in online to baggage reclaim and arrivals.
5. Air Travel Discussion Questions
Students discuss a range of engaging questions related to flying, airports, nervous flyers, long-haul flights, business class, flight delays, and travel experiences.
6. Talk for a Minute Fluency Activity
