Subject and Object Questions – Lesson Overview

1. Understanding Subject and Object Questions

Students review the subject, verb and object in a sentence before learning how subject and object questions differ. Clear subject questions examples and object question examples help students see who or what performs or receives the action.

2. Questions with Who, What, Which and Whose

Students explore how who and what are used in subject and object questions and learn how which and whose can also form subject questions. They also look at questions formed from sentences without objects.

3. Question Formation Practice

Students identify question types and complete questions using the correct verb forms. They practise present and past simple forms as well as questions containing other auxiliary verbs.

4. Writing and Error Correction

Students form their own questions from given information before identifying and correcting common mistakes. This reinforces the key differences between the two question types.

5. Speaking Practice and Revision

Students use prompts to form questions and discuss their answers in pairs or small groups. A final revision task checks their understanding of the key grammar rules.

Skills Developed

Question formation, grammar accuracy, speaking, error correction and conversational fluency.

Lesson Objectives

By the end of the lesson, students will be able to distinguish between subject and object questions, form both question types accurately, use who, what, which and whose appropriately, and apply the structures in conversation.
